SCB Medical College is a government-run medical college located in Cuttack, Odisha, India. It was established in the year 1944 and is one of the oldest and largest medical colleges in the state. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in medicine and surgery, as well as courses in dentistry, nursing, and allied health sciences. Srirama Chandra Bhanj Medical College (S.C.B Medical College) is a premier medical institute in India in medical teaching, training, research, and patient care.
COLLEGE EDUCATION-
In this institution admits 250 students per annum for the M.B.B.S. course. For maintaining the required standard of education in medical colleges and for providing specialist service in the periphery and various existing and new Medical Colleges and Hospitals, the need for training increased numbers of post-graduate students was felt necessary in due course. this medical college extends facility for P.G. training in all the 22 broad specialties as well as post-doctoral training in super-specialty subjects like Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Pulmonary Medicine, Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and Plastic Surgery. In the year 2001 Govt. of Odisha, in collaboration with ISRO and Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow established the Tele-Medicine service for providing Distant Medical Education to our medical students, Teleconsultation for critically ill patients, follow-up treatment facility to the patients who have been treated earlier and lastly Telemedical video conference. SCB Medical College with its attached hospital is a huge institution, comparable to the very best of its kind in the country. It is one of the very few Medical Colleges of India which have been permitted to admit 250 students in the MBBS course. With respect to teaching, training, research, and clinical service, SCB Medical College maintains an excellent reputation and standard. ADMISSION-
PG ADMISSION-
At present, SCB extends facility for P.G. training in all the 22 broad specialties as well as P.G. studies in super-specialty subjects like Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Besides, facilities are available in disciplines like other super specialty disciplines viz. Clinical Hematology, Hepatology, Surgical Endocrinology and Surgical Gastroenterology. Though these super speciality disciplines till date do not have post-doctoral training facilities as yet, they render yeoman service nonetheless by way of making available highly skilled and most modern forms of therapy to the needy patients of our State. State of the art treatments like bone marrow transplantation and renal transplantations are offered to needy patients at state cost.
MBBS ADMISSION-
The Course of studies leading to the award of degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) and Bachelor of Dental Science(BDS) of the shall last for a minimum of 5½ academic years including one year of compulsory internship. SCB takes all its student thorough all India NEET examination.
COLLEGE COURSES-
SCB Medical College provides degree courses for MBBS, MD, MS, DM, MCh, and diploma courses. Its intake for MBBS courses is 250 students per year, 229 trainees for postgraduate and 42 trainees for super-specialty courses. A Dental Wing in the college campus imparts BDS (63 students per year) & MDS (27 trainees per year) degrees under Utkal University. At present, this college extends facilities for postgraduate training in all the 22 broad specialty & 11 super specialty departments.
The college offers the four-and-a-half-year M.B.B.S. course with a one-year compulsory rotating internship. There are 250 seats, which are filled through a single-window all India medical test, known as NEET-UG. Out of the 250 seats, 85% of admissions are done through state quota and 15% through NEET counselling at the national level.
The college offers 229 seats in 22 postgraduate courses. Admission is through the all India NEET-PG examination. Fifty percent seats are reserved for the State candidates and 50% is through the NEET counselling at the national level.
The college offers 42 seats in 11 super specialty courses. Admission is through the all India NEET-super specialty examination.
