Bindu Sagar a sacred lake situated in the temple city of India Bhubaneswar has a very long centuries of history, legends, spirituality and faith.
Bindu Sagar literally defines itself as “Ocean of Drops” which is belief that water from all the holy rivers and lakes are collected in the formation of this sacred Lake as it is believed that in mythology Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati made this Lake after defeating demon Tripurasura. There are another legend that says when Goddess Parvati while in ‘Ekamra Kshetra’ (the ancient name of Bhubaneswar),felt thirsty. To quench her thirst, Shiva struck the earth with his trident, creating a spring and to make it pure water drops from all holy rivers and lakes are brought to the creation of the lake. This make this sacred lake holy and believed that if you take single dip in the water it cleanse all the sins.
Festivals & Rituals
Once a year during Chadan Yatra festivals Lord Shree Lingaraj is brought outside temple shrine and decorated in a boat that takes across its water. This festivals gives this sacred Lake a new charm and air is filled with the blessing of Lord Lingaraj with beautiful lights and diyas.
On daily basis devotees and priest performs rituals across its Ghats which elevates the spirituality of the place.
